What Does "ELITE" Even Look Like?

Few people have the opportunity to spend time with the world's best of the best. Fortunately I've been able to live, work, and have extensive conversations with people who are at the top of their field.

Eventually I began to recognize consistent patterns across the board.

Regardless of their sport, industry, topic, or interest; they all shared the same characteristics.

I am sharing them here so you can identify opportunities to tighten your game and play at higher levels.

1: They dress well.

This is first for a reason. You've been told that you shouldn't judge a book by its cover, but that is a better idea than it is a winning strategy.

EVERYONE makes snap judgements about a book, a movie, a product, and a person based on their first impressions. People decide right away whether they're interested or not, and it happens in less than 3 seconds.

That's why the best dress well. It is a signal to others that they have their shit together, and it's a sign of respect to their clients that they are capable of managing details that smooth brain people think are "frivolous."

If I can't trust you with the small details, why am I going to trust you with the important ones?

2: They're fit.

Easiest way to level up your wardrobe? Have a good frame to work with.

Having muscles and physical dimension (that classic V taper for guys) makes even a simple t-shirt and jeans look good.

They go to the gym. They eat right. They sleep well.

You also can't buy a perfect 10 body. It takes long term planning, discipline to stay on track, and a lot of mind power to say no to "temptation" over and over again.

Exactly the kind of mind that wins in business.

3: They're confident.

There's a big difference between confidence and arrogance. One is backed up with results, and the other isn't.

Confidence is NOT something that you can "fake it until you make it."

Confidence is build on the foundation of competence.

So know your shit, and improve your skills. Become an operator that thrives in the worst environments.

Only then can you speak up, advocate for your own success, and deliver information in a way that commands attention.

4: They're solutions oriented.

That sounds ridiculous to the uninitiated. Having said that, it is a powerful shift in mindset that separates the dreamers from the achievers.

ELITE performers spend as little time as is necessary to properly identify what the problem is. Once they know what the root issue is, they immediately begin working on finding a solution.

Every single second you spend complaining, blaming, or ignoring the problem is another second that the ELITE gets farther ahead of you.

5: They know what they want.

ELITE performers have a crystal clear idea of what they want out of their life, their business, their relationships, their friendships, and themselves.

Nearly every "normal" person I talk with says something along the lines of "I can't even imagine having a job like yours!" If you can't even picture it in your mind, what are the chances you're going to make it happen for yourself?


You have to be clear about what you want before you can even start thinking about the best ways to make it happen.

6: They write it down.

Not only can they tell you, exactly, what they want, they can put it into words. Beyond that, they've written it down.



In their journal. In their notebook. On sticky notes on the edge of their monitor, on their bathroom mirror, on the dashboard of their car.

ELITE achievers are constantly reminding themselves what's important, and this directly translates to putting in more effort more consistently.

The show up more often and put in more energy than you. That's why they win and you don't.

7: They're a vault.

Everything is on a need to know basis, and you don't need to know.

I've had to cut off personal and professional relationships because they would talk about my business to people who weren't involved. The result? I lost opportunities and money due to miscommunications, misaligned expectations, and misrepresentations of intent.

ELITE operators know to keep their mouth shut. They don't gossip. They don't share hearsay.

They only talk about important business with the people who are directly involved.

8: They pay attention.

ELITE operators know how to focus and stay focused. They ignore everything that is irrelevant, and most things are irrelevant.

This is a super power. Especially at conferences.

Imagine you're talking with a VIP who could hook you up.

But you keep getting distracted by people walking by. The sounds of doors opening up. Your phone buzzing in your pocket.

If you let your attention get pulled away from your conversation, you've already lost.

I've had millionaires tell me, point blank, that it was my ability to not be "shopping the room" for other opportunities that sold them on working with me.

My ability to completely tune into our conversation and stay there that led to huge opportunities.

Now apply that principle at the life level.


9: They are early.

"Sorry I'm late, there was traffic." <<<some loser who missed an opportunity.

The ELITE businessman had to get to the same place you did. They're not late. They respect their time, yet they're not waiting to the last minute to get going.

They know that there's always the opportunity to make a phone call, do some planning, read up on industry news while they wait for the meeting to start.

There's absolutely no need to cut it so close that they're going to stress about whether or not they make it.

10: They invest.

Not just in the traditional "money in an account" sense.

They invest in their own personal development. They cultivate their mind AND body. They spend money and time to improve their skills.

They invest in relationships. They're the first to call. They call even when they don't need something. They stay in touch because they actually care.

They invest in their communities. Personal and professional. They donate to local shelters and community outreach programs. They sponsor local little league teams by buying their jerseys.

They are constantly looking for ways to pour their energy into meaningful connections.

They do not expect to get returns without investment. They understand this is a broke mindset and they consider it stealing.

11: They are always growing.

ELITE know that it's all too easy to get comfortable. To get complacent.

That's where death lives.

Life is uncomfortable. Life is struggle: chosen or appointed.

They choose what's worth suffering for, and then move boldly in that direction.
